Meet the Team


Belinda Allis
Training and Development Advisor

I specialise in Child Protection training, while also regularly contributing to the Plymouth Safeguarding Children’s Board (PSCB) Child Protection training. I am also involved in Safeguarding Adults training and help with assessing of The Care Certificate. My background is in health visiting, child protection supervision and previously I worked as nurse advisor for Child Protection in Livewell Southwest CIC's Safeguarding Children team.

Qualifications: BSc Honours in Biological Science, Registered General Nurse, Certificate in Health Visiting, accredited trainer in DASH (Domestic Abuse, Stalking and Harassment and Honour Based Violence).


Marie-Helene Arti
Head of Training, Education & Development

My remit is to lead the scoping, design, delivery and evaluation of training, education and development opportunities offered to staff of all disciplines within Livewell Southwest and the wider communities of Plymouth, South Hams & West Devon. I am also responsible for the content development and delivery of  training and support offered to external delegates via the Livewell Southwest Academy. My special interests include neonatal care and I am a trained Frenulotomy Practitioner interested in tongue ties and their effects
on infant feeding. If you have a development need that you feel we can help with, do not hesitate to get in

Qualifications: Registered Nurse and Midwife with a Diploma in Midwifery, Bachelor of Nursing Degree and a Masters in Clinical Education, Resus Council UK ALS (Advanced life Support) provider, NLS (Newborn Life Support) provider and instructor and Generic Instructor Course trainer, clinical educational experience has included multi-disciplinary simulation within recognition of the deteriorating patient and preceptorship support programmes.

Alison Brewer
Manual Handling Advisor

I have 15 years' experience in teaching Manual Handling in acute and community settings in the South West. I am responsible for the delivery of all Manual Handling training for Livewell Southwest CIC.

Qualifications: Patient Repositioning & Pressure Awareness Training (Drive DeVilbiss), Ethos training by Handicare Moving & Handling; Sit to Stand, Single Handed Care, SWAST – Ambulance & Domiciliary Care, MA Smith Assoc. Foundation Moving & Handling, Moving & Handling of patients who have dementia (RUHB), Benmor Medical – Management of the Plus Size Patient, Diploma in Teaching in The Lifelong Learning Sector, Competency Assessment for Manual Handling, Bariatric Study Day, Clinical Audit Practice, University Module; Competencies for Teaching, Liko Lift License.


David Dodd
Training and Development Advisor

I deliver Conflict Resolution, Physical Intervention and Breakaway training. My background is in mental health and learning disabilities. I trained as a mental health nurse (RMN) in the early 2000s before gaining accreditation as a General Service Association (GSA) tutor. I have also worked as a nurse in the mental health recovery service within Livewell Southwest CIC.

Qualifications: Registered Mental Health Nurse, General Service Association Tutor, teaching qualification in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS).


Andy Field
Resuscitation Officer

I deliver Resuscitation and Emergency Care training to all health, social care and non-clinical staff within Livewell Southwest CIC and the wider community of Plymouth, South Hams and West Devon.
I joined Livewell Southwest CIC in June 2010. Prior to this I completed 27 years’ service in the Royal Navy and I am still a member of the Royal Naval Reserve.

Qualifications: Qualified Ambulance Technician, Diploma and an Advanced Certificate in Emergency and Primary Healthcare, Advanced Life Support (ALS) Provider, Immediate Life Support (ILS) Provider and Instructor, Paediatric Immediate Life Support (pILS) Provider, Qualified First Aid Instructor, Teaching Qualification in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector, Home Office registered Prevent trainer.


David Horswell
Training and Development Advisor

I joined the training team in 2014, having worked within the learning disability service for 11 years. Prior to that, I worked for Devon and Torbay Social Services Learning Disability services for ten years.

Qualifications: Post Graduate Qualification in Aspergers Syndrome / Autistic Spectrum Conditions, BA Honours Degree in Education and Training, Certificate in Education - PCET (Cert Ed), Further and Adult Education Teachers Certificate, D32 and D33 Assessors Qualifications, a First Aid Instructors Certificate and an IOSH "Managing safely" certificate, Positive Behaviour Support Coaches programme, Applied Suicide Intervention Training (ASIST) Registered Trainer.


Nikki Lodge
Clinical Nurse Trainer

I have worked for Livewell Southwest CIC since 2005 in a nursing capacity and as a district nurse for six years. Prior to that, I worked as a health care assistant on the Orthopaedic Trauma Ward at Derriford Hospital, then went on to complete my adult nurse training. I lead on venepuncture, syringe driver, medicines management and various other clinical training courses.

Qualifications: BSc Honours in Health and Social Care, Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Registered General Nurse, Non Medical Prescriber.


Tracey Owen
Clinical Nurse Training Manager

I have been working within health care since 1993 and was a District Nurse prior to this post. I provide training, advice and support with clinical practice/skills for Livewell Southwest CIC staff, as well as other community organisations. I am the national ear care trainer for the South West and I also lead on various specialities including diabetes, flu and managing a caseload and small team.

Qualifications: Registered General Nurse, BSc Honours in Health and Social Care with Specialist Qualification in District Nursing, Cert Ed. Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) qualification.


Crystal Stean
Training and Development Advisor

I am qualified in the therapeutic management of violence and aggression through the General Services Association (GSA). My background is in sports and exercise science, and started my career in sport and exercise coaching. After obtaining my degree as a mature student, I have taught these academic subjects in further education colleges, schools and youth services.

Qualifications: Post Graduate Certificate in Education; accredited teacher in Personal, Social and Health Education, teaching qualification in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS), General Services Association (GSA) Tutor Accreditation.


Alison Wadley
Training and Development Advisor

I deliver Safeguarding Adults (SGA) training as well as co-delivering Conflict Resolution Training (CRT). I also assist in the assessing of the Standards undertaken by those who have attended the Care Certificate course. I have previously worked in the Risk, Health, Safety and Security department for Livewell Southwest CIC.

Qualifications:  Accredited Local Security Management Training, Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Professional Trainer Certificate, National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) Certificate, National Examining Board in Supervisory Management, Leadership Clusters Programme, National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) Root Cause Analysis.


David Webster
Training and Development Advisor

Before taking on my current position, I worked as a Deputy Unit Manager for Edgcumbe Dementia
Assessment Unit. Edgcumbe Unit is a Mental Health Unit specialising in assessment and treatment of
individuals suffering with the behavioural and psychological symptoms of Dementia. My responsibilities
included management of the Unit, in house training, MHA, MCA, Dementia Awareness, Falls training,
discharge planning, Quality Improvement and  incident management. I also have experience within Acute
Adult Inpatient Mental Health as well as Community Mental Health.

Qualifications: BA (Hons) Economics, Registered Mental Health Nurse
