This course covers the very sensitive topic of Fungating Wounds and is aimed to provide guidance in the management of the wound and the psychological support required for patients and families/carers. The course is for all registered nurses, nurse associates, assistant practitioners and health care assistants. Attendees will gain  theoretical knowledge in the nature of the disease and the management of complex wounds. In addition the financial and humanitarian costs will the topic of discussion.

Objectives/Aims of Course

  • To use a holistic approach and involve the patient in their carers
  • To understand the importance of wound assessment and review
  • To gain knowledge of the topical applications/dressings available and provide a rationale for their use
  • To recognise infection
  • To support patients, families and carers

Course Programme

The course will examine the Definition, Aetiology, Epidemiology and Management of Fungating Wounds. Advice will be provided on effective pain management and bleeding. Dressing selection advice will be given.

Course Deliverables

This course will provide a Certificate of training in the Management of Fungating Wounds.
